A pre purchase inspection should cover the engine health, scanning engine codes, and evaluation of the clutch, brakes and tires. You’ll find out if the engine has been replaced because modern engines have serial numbers which often match the VIN of the car. During your test drive listen for clunks, squeaks, rattles and other signs that the car has been driven hard.
